POSITION OVERVIEW – Research Technician-Catalyst Testing
This is a contractor technician position in the PTU & BSU Testing Team in Power the Core R&D department of Molecular Conversions division, under Innovation group. The successful candidate’s key responsibility would be to work closely with entire PTU & BSU operation team and research engineer partners, to conduct various catalyst and process evaluation and development activities on PTU or BSUs, to support Client’s refining and hydro-processing business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts Lab work for the testing of catalysts & hydrocarbon feedstocks under the direction of team leader, senior operation team member, and/or research engineer/chemist lab users. These may involve:
- Sourcing/sizing/sorting catalysts for the test;
- Loading and installing RXs for the units;
- Interacting with other RTC teams to obtain and prepare run feeds;
- Starting up, maintaining the safe and smooth operation, making necessary condition changes of an experiment, and troubleshooting operation issues as they arise. Note these tests may operate at elevated temperature & pressure (?500F and ?1000 psig);
- Sampling and managing daily run product, and preparing these for various analytical tests;
- Collecting, organizing and reviewing process data and analytical data to report to lab database systems;
- Supporting other PTU/BSU operation team members’ work, in both unit operation and in-house analysis work areas, when there is backup needs;
- May Handling potentially toxic chemicals during the above tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Mechanical skills for assembling simple piping and testing equipment
- Experience in laboratory work, such as handling chemicals and operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Laboratory work utilizing chemicals, glassware, and testing equipment
- Operation of testing systems including basic maintenance & trouble shooting
- Demonstration of safe lab work behaviors and team work experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Operation of testing unit at elevated temperatures and pressures (500F & 1000 psig)
- Basic excel and word software knowledge
- Strong Communication & Client’s Way Behaviors
- Strong Commitment to Operation Excellence in lab and office environment, with strong safety record
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key project partners outside their immediate work group
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience in separating and purifying metals from complex solutions.
- Synthesis of catalyst materials.
- Familiarity with computer controlled equipment, spreadsheets, and word processing.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Natural Sciences, Earth Sciences or related field.
