Position: Geology Technician
Pay Rate: $18/hour
Geotemps, Inc. is looking for at Geology Technician to assist with the exploration drilling program. The Geology Technician will report to the Sr. Geologist and other Geological staff involved in the drilling program. They will be responsible for following all clients safety procedures and will prepare drill core or RC samples for laboratory analysis, label and track laboratory samples, properly store the samples returned from the lab, and assist with associated duties as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
The Geology Technician must be capable of multi-tasking, time management, and prioritizing tasks to meet schedules of the drilling program and sample processing. Additionally, the following are required and/or likely to occur daily:
- Repeatedly lift 60 pounds.
- Drive a pickup truck safely.
- Walk on rocky, uneven surfaces.
- Safely operate a forklift, hydraulic pallet Jack, core saw, core splitter.
- Basic computer skills to perform data entry.
- Frequent exposure to weather (sun, heat, wind, rain).
- MSHA 5000-23 certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation.
REGULAR DUTIES
The Geology Technician must complete daily, in a timely manner, all duties and tasks assigned by the Sr. Geologist and other Geological staff in support of the drilling program. They will receive training and certification for all machinery/equipment used in sample preparation, including forklift, hydraulic core splitter, electric core saw, and hydraulic pallet Jack.
Sample delivery and preparation:
- Receive, layout, palletize, and store drill core/RC samples.
- Prepare samples as instructed (cut, split, bag, re-box, label, document).
- Handle, move, and store samples properly and safely.
- Properly store all sample rejects and pulps returned from the laboratory.
- Measure and record density data.
- Measure and record rock strength data.
- Properly record all sample related data as appropriate for tracking and data storage.
Equipment and facilities maintenance:
- Properly conduct equipment pre-operative inspections.
- Maintain all equipment (fluids, charging, and daily cleaning).
- Operate all equipment safely.
- Adhere to all equipment Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain cleanliness of facilities daily.
The duties of the Geology Technician are essential for the proper processing of drill core/RC samples produced during the drilling program. Proper execution of the job duties will facilitate sample processing and help ensure efficient and timely return of information from the processing laboratory, pre-test processing of samples, and long-term storage of geological data from the drilling program.
