Allegiance Staffing is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter to support a fast-paced, project-driven fabrication shop environment. This role is critical to production and requires individuals who can independently interpret blueprints, perform precise layout and fit-up of structural components, and contribute directly to the completion of fabrication projects.
This is not a general labor or entry-level position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel fabrication, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to changing project demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings independently
- Perform layout from prints, ensuring accuracy prior to assembly
- Fit and align structural steel components including:
- Perform fit-up of components, ensuring:
- Proper tolerance
- Level and square alignment
- Structural integrity prior to welding
- Tack weld own work to secure components for final welding
- Use appropriate tools and equipment to complete fabrication tasks
- Work collaboratively with welders and other shop personnel to meet production deadlines
- Adapt to changing project requirements and production priorities
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Structural Steel Fitter
- Proven experience working with:
- Skids
- Platforms
- Structural frames
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints independently (non-negotiable)
- Experience performing layout directly from prints
- Strong knowledge of fit-up techniques and structural alignment
- Ability to ensure work is square, level, and within tolerance
- Ability to tack weld own work
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a production environment
Tools & Equipment Experience
Candidates must be familiar with and able to safely operate:
- Oxy-fuel torch
- Grinders
- Measuring and layout tools (tape, square, level, etc.)
- Overhead cranes and material handling equipment
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, project-based fabrication shop
- Work scope may change based on project demands
- Requires flexibility and ability to adapt to varying workloads
- Indoor shop environment with heavy structural steel components
Safety Requirements
- Must follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Proper use of PPE at all times (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and large structural materials
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and adhere to all safety protocols
Reliability & Attendance
- Strong attendance is critical to production success
- Must be dependable, punctual, and consistent
- Ability to meet project deadlines and maintain productivity
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
