Licensed Customs Broker
Direct Hire
Salary: $90K - $135K annually DOE
In Office Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, flexible to OT as needed
**MUST HAVE: exposure to foreign-trade zone and project cargo clearance (bulk cargo)**
Purpose:
The main purpose is to manage and oversee all customs clearance operations and team members. The job exists to strategically lead the customs brokerage team, develop and implement customs compliance procedures, optimize clearance processes, and establish professional relationships with customs authorities and key clients. The job contributes towards operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and enhanced service delivery to drive business growth and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Objectives:
Team Management:
- Supervise, guide and develop a team of customs brokerage Supervisor/Custom Brokerage Coordinators/entry writers
- Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews
- Ensure the team is adequately trained in the latest customs regulations and processes
- Allocate resources effectively to manage workload and meet service level agreements
- Lead by example and create a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Ensure staff adheres to ethical standards and compliance requirements
Compliance Management
- Develop and maintain comprehensive customs compliance procedures
- Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to customs regulations
- Stay abreast of changes in customs laws and update internal procedures accordingly
- Implement risk management strategies to identify and mitigate compliance risks
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required documentation
- Handle complex clearance issues and resolve regulatory challenges
- Liaise with legal counsel, when necessary, on complex compliance matters
Operations Oversight
- Review and approve complex customs declarations and documentation
- Oversee the classification of goods under the correct HS codes
- Ensure accurate valuation of goods for customs purposes
- Manage special customs regimes and duty exemption procedures
- Coordinate with operations team on critical or high-value shipments
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for customs operations
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with customs officials
- Represent the company in meetings with customs authorities
- Develop relationships with key clients to understand their specific requirements.
- Collaborate with industry associations and participate in relevant forums.
- Negotiate favorable terms and arrangements with customs authorities when possible
- Resolve escalated issues with stakeholders through effective communication
- Provide strategic customs advisory services to key clients.
Performance Analysis
- Develop and implement KPIs for customs operations
- Analyze clearance times, error rates, and compliance metrics
- Identify trends and opportunities for process improvement
- Prepare regular management reports on operational performance.
- Benchmark performance against industry standards
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on analysis
- Lead cost optimization efforts related to customs operations
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- US CBP Issued Customs Broker License - role will be utilizing license
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, International Business, or related field
- Advanced knowledge of Customs Clearance formalities, regulations, and international trade laws. Expertise in tariff classification, valuation, and rules of origin. Knowledge of international trade agreements and preferential trade arrangements
- Fluent in English (written and verbal). Additional languages beneficial
- 10+ years of experience in customs clearance within the Oil & Gas industry.
