Junior Accountant with Payroll

Salary: $72,000 – $79,000 annually -$34/hr-$37/hr

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant with Payroll Specialist to join our team on a contract basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. This position is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in an independent environment and is motivated to take ownership of payroll operations while driving process improvements.

You will play a critical role in managing end-to-end payroll functions and supporting the implementation of a new payroll system.

Key Responsibilities

Manage full-cycle Accounting and payroll processing for all employees across Canada
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation
Administer payroll functions including wage garnishments, deductions, and remittances
Act as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related matters
Lead and support the implementation of a new payroll system, including testing and validation of system functionality
Review current payroll processes and recommend improvements
Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data integrity
Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll inquiries and issues
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in a payroll-focused role
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
Experience managing full-cycle payroll independently
Experience with payroll system implementations or upgrades is considered an asset
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

The Payroll Specialist will be the sole payroll resource, offering a high level of ownership and autonomy
