Position Summary:
The GIS Specialist supports electric utility operations by maintaining, validating, and updating spatial and attribute data within GIS systems. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of distribution network data through data editing, quality control, and collaboration with operations, engineering, and GIS teams.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Use ArcGIS, ArcFM, and custom applications to edit, maintain, and validate electric distribution GIS data
- Interpret electrical utility drawings (one-lines, schematics, plan and profile drawings) to update spatial and attribute information
- Perform data conversion, digitizing, spatial and attribute editing, and ongoing database maintenance
- Conduct QC/QA and data validation to ensure compliance with standards and data accuracy
- Track work progress, meet production timelines, and coordinate with supervisors to resolve data issues
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Technical certification or equivalent education/experience in GIS, Drafting, or a related field
- 1–5 years of experience using ArcGIS in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and utility network connectivity
- Ability to read and understand utility engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail with solid communication and teamwork skills
- Proficiency with current GIS tools and technologies
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field
- Experience with ArcGIS 10.x, ArcFM, and networked utility GIS data
