Alexandria, VA - Director of Transportation and Environmental Services
More Information & ApplyMGT is pleased to partner with the City of Alexandria, VA in search of top-tier candidates for its Director of Transportation & Environmental Services.
The Director will lead strategic and operational efforts across Alexandria’s transportation, utility infrastructure planning, environmental management, and public works functions. This executive role oversees a wide range of services, including transit and mobility initiatives, environmental quality programs (air, water, and noise), and public works operations such as development review, right-of-way permitting, and traffic control. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in transportation, utilities, and environmental services, with a strong track record of operational leadership.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or public/business administration. A master’s is strongly preferred.
- At least eight (8) years of progressively more complex work experience in local government in civil, environmental, public works, transportation, and water resources engineering in the progressively more complex work outlined.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- Expert level expertise in multimodal transportation planning and policy, as well as significant experience in environmental and infrastructure planning, public works operations, and capital project management.
- Experience in managing a unionized workforce is a plus.

- Salary Range: $130,200 - $233,000. The hiring rate will be based on qualifications.
- Relocation assistance may be considered for the successful candidate.
