Description
A leading engineering and environmental consulting firm is seeking a senior mine water management professional to serve as a technical and delivery-focused leader within its Environmental Services practice. This role is intended for a highly experienced practitioner who brings deep mine water expertise, strong client presence, and the ability to integrate technical solutions from early concept through design and construction.
The position plays a critical role in shaping mine water strategies that are technically sound, constructable, and aligned with overall project delivery objectives. The successful candidate will support mining clients across the full project lifecycle, from planning and permitting through construction, operations, and closure, while working closely with engineering, construction, and environmental teams to deliver integrated, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Development
- Provide senior technical leadership for mine water management planning and execution across the mining lifecycle, including permitting, operations, closure, and long-term water stewardship
- Lead and oversee mine water management strategies and analyses, including water balance development, surface water and groundwater interaction, water quality characterization, treatment, reuse, and conservation approaches
- Direct, review, and validate hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrogeologic analyses, including watershed-scale evaluations, probabilistic and risk-informed assessments, and scenario-based modeling
- Support the planning, evaluation, and design of mine water infrastructure, including ponds, impoundments, conveyance systems, treatment systems, and water control structures, with consideration for constructability, sequencing, and operational practicality
- Participate in constructability reviews and integrated design efforts
Client Interface & Business Development Support
- Serve as a senior technical interface with mining clients
- Support business development efforts and proposal development
- Contribute to scopes of work, work plans, and execution strategies
- Support cost estimates, schedules, and resource planning
- Assist in expanding existing client relationships
Project Management & Delivery
- Serve as a project manager or senior technical lead for mine water-related projects
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, and overall project performance
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to support integrated delivery
- Identify and manage technical and execution risks
Modeling & Analysis
- Lead or oversee mine water balance modeling efforts
- Apply probabilistic and risk-based analysis approaches
- Incorporate climate variability and long-term closure considerations
- Translate technical analysis into clear recommendations
Mentoring & Team Development
- Mentor engineers and scientists within Environmental Services
- Support development of junior and mid-level staff
- Contribute to best practices, tools, and standards
- Support recruiting and onboarding efforts
Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including environmental, engineering, and construction
- Align technical execution with project and client objectives
- Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering (or related)
- 13+ years of experience in mine water management, water resources, hydrogeology, or related fields
- Experience with water balance modeling and hydrologic/hydrogeologic analysis
- Client-facing experience including scoping and proposal support
- Experience managing or supporting project delivery (scope, schedule, budget)
- Experience supporting projects through design and construction
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and provide senior-level technical leadership
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Professional licensure (PE or PG) or ability to obtain
- Experience with mine permitting, operations, closure, and reclamation
- Familiarity with tools such as GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW
- Experience with risk-based or probabilistic analysis
- Prior mentoring and leadership experience
- Experience with mine closure planning and long-term water management strategies
