Administrative Hearing Officer

This fully remote Administrative Hearing Officer role allows you to conduct hearings, evaluate evidence, and issue decisions that directly impact Texas workers and employers. You’ll gain hands-on adjudication experience in a mission-driven environment while building a strong foundation in administrative law and managing a consistent caseload in a fast-paced setting.

The Team You Will Be Joining

This agency delivers workforce development services that support both Texas employers and job seekers. By strengthening the state’s workforce and aligning with the Governor’s economic development strategy, the agency plays a key role in driving business growth and economic stability across Texas.

Major Duties

Conduct administrative hearings for unemployment insurance claims within the Appeals Tribunal.
Manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
Evaluate testimony, evidence, and case records to resolve disputes in a fair and impartial manner.
Apply relevant laws, rules, and precedents to reach well-reasoned legal determinations.
Draft clear, concise, and legally sound written decisions within established timelines.
Preside over hearings for additional agency programs as needed.
Participate in ongoing training to maintain knowledge of legal standards, procedures, and best practices.
Exercise independent judgment while ensuring compliance with due process and agency policies.
Maintain professionalism and composure when interacting with diverse parties in potentially high-pressure situations.

Required Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Reliable internet connection and ability to work in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Texas Payday Law, Texas Unemployment Compensation Act, and related regulations.
Experience conducting administrative hearings and drafting legal decisions or documents.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess facts and apply legal principles effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and strong typing skills (50+ WPM) with high attention to detail
Demonstrated adaptability, accountability, and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

Opportunity Details

Pay Rate: $57.00/hour.
Assignment Length: 1 year, with potential for extension.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (40 hours/week).
Location: Fully remote (Texas residents only).
