Position Summary:
We are hiring an experienced Weld Engineer to support both prototype and production welding operations in a fast-paced, low volume/high mix environment serving the automotive, aerospace, and defense industries. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert on welding processes, equipment, materials, quality, and standards.
Position Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and promote safety protocols across all welding operations
- Develop, enhance, and optimize welding processes and specifications
- Conduct material testing and analysis to support project requirements
- Perform welding procedure qualifications and documentation
- Train, guide, and supervise welders and operators on best practices
- Evaluate and troubleshoot welding issues and failures
- Monitor and improve weld quality performance and standards
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in welding operations
- Review and implement welding equipment and robotic systems upgrades
- Support new product development and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong background in defense and/or aerospace engineering
- In-depth knowledge of metals, alloys, and material selection
- Familiarity with welding codes and standards (AWS, ASME, etc.)
- Understanding of electrical requirements related to welding equipment
- Project management, documentation, and process control expertise
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science
- Completion of relevant Welding Coursework Programs
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – AWS (preferred)
- Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) – AWS (preferred)
- 5+ years of weld engineering experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment
