Job Description

The Sr Accountant responsibilities consist of the review and analyzing activities of workers engaged in calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain and record financial data for use in maintaining accounting, budget analysis, and statistical records. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Responsibilities:

Reconcile investments, property taxes, fixed assets and all bank accounts; creates journal entries; posts to the general ledger. Reconciles all of the City's credit card accounts used to accept payments from external customers.
Manages all aspects of the City's purchasing card program including drafting and updating policy, setting up new cardholders, verifying documentation of all p-card transactions, approving p-card transactions, and assisting cardholders with issues.
Assists Staff Accountant with daily activities.
Processes and approves or denies all requests for payment of business travel expenses, including travel advance requests and requests for reimbursement of expenses already incurred.
Coordinates and assists with a weekly cashier's cash audit for all departments in a rotation week.
Supervises the payroll function and the work of the Payroll Specialist, including answering payroll questions, resolving issues that arise, and correcting mistakes made.
Serves as a liaison to external auditors, prepares schedules and reports, answers questions as necessary; assists in preparing the comprehensive annual financial report; assists with related annual financial audits.
Reconciles payroll tax payments to ensure accuracy; makes any payments owed and claims any refunds due; prepares quarterly payroll tax report.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field.
Requires four years of accounting or closely related experience. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License
