Site Safety & Health Officer - Full Renovation

Washington, DC

Day Shift: 6 am to 3 pm

Pay: $50/hr

We are seeking a highly experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to provide safety leadership on a large-scale federal construction project. This position requires a proven safety professional with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive a proactive safety culture across all site operations.

Qualifications

5+ years of construction safety experience with a track record of success on complex projects
OSHA 30 Hour Training (completed within the past 5 years)
First Aid/CPR/AED certification (required)
Must demonstrate strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 requirements and hold current 40-Hour certification.
24 Hour Fall Protection Competent Person
Competent Person training for Confined Space, Excavation & Trenching, Scaffolding, Cranes and Rigging, and Electrical Work.
USACE CQM preferred

Key Responsibilities

Champion Safety Culture: Prepare and enforce health and safety policies that build a safe, proactive jobsite environment.
Lead Safety Programs: Design and implement safety programs, plans, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
Monitor & Report: Track safety compliance, document findings, and communicate updates
Identify & Solve Hazards: Spot risks early, recommend solutions, and ensure preventive measures are put in place.
Drive Engagement: Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions to keep teams engaged and aligned.
Stay Present & Involved: Maintain regular on-site presence, participate in project meetings, and provide proactive safety guidance.
Ensure Compliance: Verify that all work follows approved manuals, internal procedures, and contract requirements.
Maintain Documentation: Keep accurate logs of inspections, reports, and safety correspondence.
Oversee Site Activity: Supervise subcontractors and contractors to ensure work meets EHS requirements.
Investigate & Improve: Conduct investigations for accidents, incidents, and near misses; follow through on corrective actions.
Enforce Standards: Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with safety procedures at all times.
Support the Project: Contribute to additional safety initiatives and requirements as needed.
