Direct Hire Welder - Must have stable work history, have a minimum of 2 years experience, AND pass a 2g 45 flat pulse arc test

Summary:  Operate welding equipment using a variety of welding processes and to meet quality standards by performing the following duties.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  1. Ability to weld together fabricated parts of structural metal products in shop; plan sequence of operation. 
  2. Obtain specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun; connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician and be able to set welding machine wire feed.
  3. Ability to start power supply to produce electric current; strike (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
  4. Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. 
  5. Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  6. Examine weld for bead size, overall appearance, and other specifications.
  7. Ability to lift and position components, manually, using overhead or jib cranes. 
  8. Ability to set up jigs and fixtures; position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
  9. Ability to straighten warped or bent parts.
  10. Must be able to read blueprints.
  11. Ability to grind, chip weld splatter, high spot, burr, and rust from surfaces of structure components.
  12. Ability to position work pieces manually or by using overhead or jib cranes. Examines and feels surface of work piece for defects.
  13. Selects grade of abrasive wheel, disk and die grinder bits according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder.
  14. Ability to pull trigger to start power tool and move it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs.
  15. Ability to load trucks.
  16. Ability to chip or grind out pits or cracks; replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and die grinder bits. 
  17. Move assembly to storage area; use portable grinders
  18. Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on–site, ability to work overtime.
  19. Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
  20. Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.
  21. Must be able to operate other small machines.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE 
Must pass American Welding Society 2g Plate Test and Canadian Welding Bureau.  Two years of experience preferred.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English.  
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
 
REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Employee will be working in a manufacturing area, which has moving mechanical equipment, hazards associated with welding, airborne mists and particles, chemicals and loud shop noises. Employee may work in outdoor weather conditions.
